We are currently seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Pasadena, CA office in support of the LA Fire Justice campaign. This position is a hybrid role, requiring 1-2 days per week in the office. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and supporting overall accounting operations. This role will focus on general ledger management, balance sheet reconciliations, expense reporting, and billing activities.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Prepare and analyze balance sheet accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Process and review expense reports to ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Assist with billing and billable expense tracking, ensuring accuracy and proper allocation.
  • Support the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Assist in preparing financial statements and reports for management.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support audits, budgeting, and forecasting activities.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in accounting workflows.
  • Records and verifies various financial transactions and events in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). 
  • Assists with audits. Designs and generates ad hoc reports.

Required Qualifications
  •  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited institution. 
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Accounts payable experience required.
  • Strong experience with general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Experience in reviewing and processing expense reports and handling billables.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
  • Proficient in use of automated accounting systems, Sage preferred.
  • Proficiency in Quickbooks required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (advanced Excel skills) and Google Workspace; proficiency in the use of other office equipment.

  • Demonstrated experience with automated financial systems and data query tools.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 25 lbs.
  • Frequent need for oral, written and auditory communication.
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Frequent repetitive hand and wrist motions.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and sometimes stressful service environment.

Pay Range: $37.50 - $39.00 per hour
